Members of our club joined members from the Oakland Key Club, Blackman Builders Club and parents to help plant trees along the Greenway Saturday in the area cleared earlier this year by devastating tornados.

November 15, 2009It is with a heavy heart that we have to report the loss of one of our LaVergne High School Key Club members. Esaela Hariri’s body was found Saturday in J. Percy Priest Lake after an apparent suicide. Esaela will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and then entire LaVergne H.S. community.

Builders Club prepares for turkey project
November 13, 2009Blackman Middle School Builders Clubbers will be hosting a can food drive and selling “turkey feathers” next week. The kids will be selling paper feathers during their lunch period to benefit the local food bank. The feathers will be posted outside teachers classrooms. The teacher with the most feathers will in turn have to dress up like a turkey at the school’s pep rally. The kids also made Christmas cards for a terminally ill child and signed up to bring in gifts for the Dec. 5 Candle Wishes party. 
Veteran’s Day speaker on the mark
November 12, 2009This Veteran’s Day our club welcomed MTSU Dr. Derek Frisby, assistant professor of history, as our speaker. Frisby talked about the completion of and this Saturday’s dedication of the MTSU Veteran’s Memorial which our club purchased three “bricks” for. Frisby also shared photos and stories from his recent “research” trip to the Pacific.

Oakland Key Club high on hog
November 11, 2009Members of the Oakland High School Key Club set up a table at Jim N Nicks BBQ tonight to raise funds for their club. Patrons had the opportunity to drop their receipts or donations into a fish bowl at the Key Club table. Jim N Nicks donated a percentage of all receipts to the Key Club. Thanks Jim N Nicks!

Club cooks to build
November 6, 2009Our club joined other groups from the community today to help raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. The public was able to buy a bowl for $10 and got to sample food from numerous groups. Our club served Taco Soup. It was such a hit that we actually ran out 1/2 way thru the event! We’ll double up on the recipe next year! The event raised $3,930 for Habitat!!!! Enjoy the photos!

Eat at Jim N Nicks Tuesday night
November 6, 2009Go ahead and mark your calendars now! If you eat at the Jim N Nicks in Murfreesboro this Tuesday between 4:30-9:00, you will be helping raise funds for the Oakland H.S. Key Club! The kids will have a table set up at Jim N Nicks that night. All you have to do is buy food at the establishment and then drop your receipt in their fish bowl as you leave! Jim N Nicks will donate 10% of your purchase directly to the Key Club! It’s that simple! So go ahead and tell your family to plan on eating out Tuesday night!
Brian Hercules addresses club
November 5, 2009New United Way President, Brian Hercules, spoke to our club at today’s meeting. He talked a little bit about his past involvement with the United Way and where he hopes to take it from here. He also shared some of the fundraising goals for the organization for this year. President Theresa presented Brian with a Kiwanis pen…. and a membership packet of course…
