Kiwanis hosts fundraiser for Candle Wishes

February 18, 2009

The Stones River-Oaklands Kiwanis club and Candle Wishes are teaming up with the Nashville Predators to help create memorable birthday experiences for needy children in Rutherford County through ticket sales and a silent auction.

Kiwanis and Candle Wishes are selling discounted tickets for the March 3 game against the Edmonton Oilers. The Predators will donate a minimum of $10 for each ticket sold directly to Candle Wishes.  There will also be a silent auction prior to the game which everyone who purchases tickets through the offer will be invited to attend.

“We are very excited about this partnership,” Jenny Williams, director of Candle Wishes said. “We have never held a fundraiser of this scale and I am so excited about how many children we can help with the funds raised.”

Candle Wishes has been making birthday wishes come true for local children since 2002.  The organization is a 501(c3) that operates with a fully volunteer staff.  The group depends on individuals adopting children for monthly parties and on monetary donations to continue its ministry.

“Our goal is to sell 500 tickets through this offer,” Williams said.  “With the donation from the Predators and the funds raised through the  auction, we could serve so many more children.”

Ticket information and pricing for this special offer can be found at http://www.nashvillepredators.com/kiwanis.  If you would like to donate items for the silent auction or funds directly to Candle Wishes, visit http://www.candlewishes.org  or call Rita King at 890-9089 for more information.

February Candle Wishes Party

February 5, 2009

What a great party we had for the February birthdays!  Some of the area high school sororities came out to serve food and play games with the kids.  We also had the 2008 Miss Black Tennessee USA on hand to visit with the children. Enjoy the photos! Read the rest of this entry »
